After School Classes


We are now registering students for our fall classes!

 

Design your own digital musical instrument!

What: Spend 10 weeks designing and making your own digital musical instrument that you can take home! Students will be taught how to brainstorm and creative problem solve using the same methods as professional engineers. Each student will use those skills to design their own musical instrument that uses touch sensors, microphones, light detectors, distance sensors, and more. They’ll chose the sensors, process sensor information with an Arduino, and chose the circuitry that outputs notes through a speaker. Each week will include a lesson on electronics or computer programming that will grow the skills necessary to create their design. Who: Students in grades 6-9 who want to learn about electronics, design, coding, engineering, and how to make awesome stuff! (Not in those grades? We’re flexible. Shoot us an email at info@ninjaneering.co and we’ll see what we can do.)

When: Tuesdays 3:30-5:00, September 16 - November 18, 10 weeks

Where: St. Thomas More Church, 940 Carmichael St Chapel Hill, NC 27514

Cost: $375, includes the cost of the instrument which the student takes home!

Instructor: Brendan Andrade

Requirements: Each student must bring a laptop. The class will be taught with a Windows PC, but we welcome Apple and Linux systems too!

Prerequisites: No prior knowledge of electronics, coding, or design is necessary for this class. We’ll teach everything needed to successfully design and build a digital musical instrument.

Safety: We will be using safety knives and other engineering tools. Proper safety using these tools will be covered and students will be expected to observe the rules.

Programming Robots!

Robots!

What: Teams of students will each be assigned a different toy robot. They will learn how to take control of the robot with their own computer code and then proceed to design and implement aToy Robotsn interactive demonstration with the robot. Possible robots include the break-dancing humanoid robot Darwin Mini, the squishy, fun MyKeepon, and the rolling ball robot Sphero. Students will have an opportunity to integrate the robots with advanced sensors like the Leap Motion and Xbox Kinect.
